Eric Walton joined GMRI as a LabVenture Educator in September of 2019 where he inspires 5th and 6th graders to improve their own understanding of the scientific process while exploring their connection to the Gulf of Maine.
Eric graduated from Colby College in 2017 where he studied Environmental Policy and Creative Writing, with a focus on Marine Science/Policy. While there he worked extensively on environmental research ranging from public perceptions of offshore wind to how schools with farm to table lunch programs define local seafood. Before coming to GMRI, Eric worked with multiple environmental education and research organizations and spent thirteen months aboard the 93-year-old wooden schooner the Roseway, teaching underserved and low-income students in the US Virgin Islands and all over New England through an Americorp partnership.
Originally from Bethesda, Maryland you will find Eric balancing his multitude of outdoor activities (skiing, hiking, climbing, and anything water related), lost in a book, or exploring all the great locally sourced food found in Maine.
