Heather began working in the Gulf of Maine Research Institute building as an Ecotrust Canada employee in June of 2017. As of May, 2018, she became a full time GMRI employee working as an Electronic Monitoring Project Manager, primarily responsible for managing the Maximized Retention Electronic Monitoring Project.
Heather graduated from Colby College in Waterville, ME with her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Classical Civilizations. While at Colby her studies took her to the Turks and Caicos Islands to learn about fisheries resource management. That lead to her persuing her Master's Degree in Marine Biosciences from the College of Earth Ocean and Environment at the University of Delaware. Post academia, Heather's broad experience has included being an NEFOP observer, an Electronic Monitoring video analyst for Ecotrust Canada, and a volunteer for several summers on a Bahamian Queen Conch conservation research project.
When she is not underwater SCUBA diving or running and swimming you may find her singing in a local chorus or taking in some Jazz at a club in downtown Portland. Of course most of that is done with an ice cream cone in her hand as she is the 6th generation of a family owned and operated, local New England, ice cream business. Needless to say, she appreciates good ice cream.
