Margaret Williams

Margaret Williams joined GMRI in 2004 as the Director of Finance & Administration and now serves as Chief Financial Officer. Her role is to manage and grow the financial and administrative functions of GMRI. This includes supervision of accounting, cash management, facilities management, financial reporting, grants management, human resources, information technology services, and investments.

Margaret came to GMRI with 30 years of experience across a broad background of administration, marketing, and economic development. She has worked both in for-profit and non-profit organizations ranging from public accounting to international airlines, Olympic equestrian sport, and multimedia software development.

"I have salt water in my blood," says Margaret. "I spent my early summers on Seal Harbor beach, crawling into the water before I could walk. Now, I have strong ties to two islands - Mount Desert (Maine) and Cape Breton (Nova Scotia)."

Margaret has a BA, Magna Cum Laude from Wheaton College, MA (Art History), an MBA from Dartmouth College, NH, and is a Certified Public Accountant. She has served on non-profit boards of several economic development organizations in Nova Scotia and was one of the founders of the first international new media awards festival in Canada. She has worked for the development of the Gaelic language in Nova Scotia, and been a long-time volunteer at the Celtic Colours International [Music] Festival.
