5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
On the eve of the Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel (NEANS) meeting, we invite you to a special Science Cafe where we will learn and discuss the status of aquatic invasive species management with GMRI staff and scientists from around the Northeast.
First we’ll hear about freshwater invasive species and Maine’s unique situation: 6,000 waterbodies with less than one percent known to be infested. How has Maine managed this record and can it be sustained? Next we’ll hear about the state of marine invaders in the Northeast. Our panelists will share the stories behind the headlines, as well as the roles we can all play in fighting for our native ecosystems. We’ll then dive into a group discussion around these topics.
Our Science Cafés are a jargon-free zone. While the presenters may have a Ph.D., you won’t need one to understand and contribute to the conversation.
Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Free parking available in the adjacent lot. Space is limited so please register in advance.
