Fish Tank is a community forum for Gulf of Maine fishermen to discuss, strategize, and define the future of fishing in the Gulf of Maine. Historically, the regulatory and scientific arenas have caused deep divisions between fishermen, scientists, and managers as well as within the fishing community. In sharp contrast to this highly politicized atmosphere, Fish Tank works to promote community-wide dialogue that results in a shared, forward-looking approach.
The opportunity to forge relationships outside of the usual regulatory and scientific forums has ultimately allowed the possibility of collaboration within such forums. Similarly, the Fish Tank forum has also served as a successful platform for the fishing industry to share perspectives and observations from the water. By bringing together fishermen and scientists, these sessions also work to cultivate collaborations around key fishery science topics.
