Educators from across Maine gathered on Jan. 10 to explore methods of engaging students with GMRI’s newest science learning tool, PowerHouse. The group spent two days prototyping the online learning environment and designing student investigations.

Through a partnership with Central Maine Power and a major grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, PowerHouse leverages the state’s smart electric meters to provide a platform for students to investigate their families’ home energy management.

“I am most excited to have students realize that they can experiment in their own lives to answer questions and improve their world,” said Franklin Sames, a Lincoln Middle School science teacher.
