In November, over 70 fishermen, scientists, and managers gathered in Plymouth, MA for Taking Stock: A Workshop to Collaboratively Improve Stock Assessments.
Participants worked in groups to discuss fishermen-generated research priorities. Together, the teams developed project proposals to address these priorities.
“For once, I have hope for progress toward a flexible solution that can be employed, adjusted, and improved upon as time goes on,” said Mike Sosik, a recreational charterboat captain out of York, ME. “I hope that GMRI can facilitate the expansion of the ideas that were explored at the workshop.”
In the coming months, GMRI will provide seed funding for one of the six proposed projects. Learn more about the process by visiting http://gmri.org/fishtank, or learn more about the goals of the workshop on our blog.
