Ciera Akins joined GMRI as a LabVenture! Fellow in September 2016 where she inspires visiting 5th and 6th graders to dive into the world of science.
She received her B.S. in Marine Biology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida in May 2016 and originally hails from Portland, Oregon. Attending marine science camps, working on live-aboard boats and in veterinary ER hospitals have stoked her interest since a young age. Her passion for the ocean is extensive but she particularly loves sharks and solving plastic pollution issues along with educating people about the importance of the ocean.
Ciera loves trees, writing, traveling, freediving, snowboarding, glitter, cheese and she has been bitten by the surf bug since she arrived in Maine.
