Julia Maine joined GMRI as a LabVenture! Fellow in September 2016 where she facilitates the interactive school visits and shares her love of marine science with the students.
Julia grew up on Chebeague Island smack dab in the middle of Casco Bay. Her island roots inspired her to study Earth and Oceanographic Science at Bowdoin College and has never been able to escape the pull of the ocean. Summers were spent working at the Chebeague Island Boatyard, as well as hauling lobster traps and shucking oysters. The remainder of the year found her either in the lab or field learning about the rocks and ocean of Midcoast Maine.
Outside GMRI, Julia hides out in the woods or on the beach with a paintbrush and a blank canvas.
