Wind Rose Society

Your annual gift of $1,000 or more to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute makes you a member of our Wind Rose Society.

For centuries, wind roses have told the story of prevailing winds to aid in navigation and weather forecasting. Similarly, the Wind Rose Society bolsters GMRI's capacity to respond nimbly to emerging challenges and opportunities. By joining the Wind Rose Society you become part of a group of forward-thinking individuals who are working to build resilient local and global communities. You will be helping to chart the future course of sustainable New England fisheries. And, you will advance efforts to ensure that Maine children are among the best educated in the nation.

Members receive invitations to special events, insider communications, and other leadership networking opportunities. Donors contribute to provocative discussions about our changing marine ecosystem, science-based solutions to seafood sustainability, and emerging trends in education.

Dive in with Don: A Breakfast for Insiders

This is a unique and informal opportunity for Wind Rose Society members to catch up over breakfast with President Don Perkins on recent GMRI activities, market trends, and new initiatives.

Naples, Florida Reception and Presentation

This year, GMRI’s Research Scientist, Graham Sherwood, Ph.D. will present "Glass Half Full: What Can a Liter of Seawater Tell Us About Life in the Ocean?" at the Naples Yacht Club.

Leadership Reception

Each year GMRI Board members, Wind Rose Society donors, and staff assemble for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a celebratory program. We share our gratitude and provide an inside look at current projects and future plans.

Sunset Sail Aboard the Frances

Wind Rose Society donors are invited to an unforgettable sunset sail aboard The Frances, a 74-foot sloop operated by Maine Sailing Adventures. We'll provide drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and an update on GMRI programs, while our guests relax and enjoy the beauty of Casco Bay.

This unique experience includes a full-day of immersive learning and social activities. Past themes have included visiting and touring a mussel farm in Casco Bay and cruising up and down the Damariscotta River while learning about local oyster farms. Check back for details about 2019.
