Adelle Pitsas
Web Developer 1
Adelle joined GMRI in the fall of 2023, where she works on the Ocean Data Products team as a Web Developer, specializing in Front End software development. Adelle’s primary goal, aligned with the ODP team goal, is to create tools for communities in the Gulf of Maine (and beyond) so they can interact with and visualize ocean research and data.
The journey to her current field was meandering. With a degree in Social and Political Psychology from Hampshire College, she loves working with and for her community and it led to her working as a farm hand on a non-profit farm, barista-ing in many a coffee shop, and working as an Operations Coordinator in a food security non-profit in Brunswick, Maine. It was here she developed an appreciation for spreadsheets and systems, and she went back to school for Front End Engineering where she graduated with a certification from Turing School of Software and Design. She has experience working to create eye-catching data visuals for websites and applications. Working at GMRI is a perfect balance, combining working within her community and putting her mind to fun technical puzzles.
When she’s not typing away at her laptop, she’s an avid baker, reader, and coffee brewer, and can be found often on a court playing basketball, on a field playing with her ultimate frisbee team (aptly named: The Buoy Association), or in the ocean for a mid-winter dip.
